Unable to Connect Server Node in Windows 7/XP
This error can occur when remote monitoring is not enabled on the server nodes that are running the Windows XP operating system.
Use the following steps to enable remote monitoring:
WINDOWS XP
Open Windows Explorer on the target Windows XP computer.
Select Tools -> Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear the Use Simple File Sharing check box, and click OK.
Verify privileges on the target Windows XP computer as described in Microsoft Knowledge Base.
If the
systemroot
is on an NTFS partition, you must have at least READ access to the following two files:%SystemRoot%/System32/Perfc009.dat
%SystemRoot%/System32/Perfh009.dat
You must have at least READ access to the following registry keys on the remote computer:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/SecurePipeServers/winreg
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Perflib
Reboot your Windows XP machine.
Note
A user that has administrator rights for the remote computer can also view remote counters.
WINDOWS 7
In windows 7 if you are still unable to view counters of a remote server, then enable File, Folder and network sharing options.
Go to Control Panel, select Network and Sharing center
Click Change Advanced Sharing Settings
Under the Network discovery option select Turn on network discovery
Under the File and printer sharing option select Turn on file and printer sharing
Under the Public folder sharing option select Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in Public folders
Click Save changes.
